Orthodontics
for Kids
You can consult an orthodontist with or without the referral from an attending dentist.
What is the ideal age to start orthodontics?
It is sometimes difficult to know when to start orthodontic treatment for a child. Approximately 60% of children aged 9 to 12 are estimated to need braces (source: UFSBD).
To ensure optimal results, it is important to begin treatment at the right time, neither too early nor too late. The ideal age for the first orthodontic consultation for children is around 7 years old.
Cases involving an excessively protruded lower jaw, swallowing problems, thumb sucking, mouth breathing, and other similar issues should not be delayed in consulting an orthodontist. In fact, treatments can begin as early as 4-5 years old.

Orthoplus functional education is conducted using soft appliances for young children. This treatment intercepts poor habits, promotes natural facial and jaw growth, and eliminates functional obstructions. This type of appliance facilitates orthodontic treatment by reducing its duration and ensuring long-term stability.
Thanks to their precision and targeted action on dental realignment, correction of lingual positioning and labial musculature, as well as stimulation of mandibular growth, Orthoplus Functional Education appliances represent a significant advancement in the field of dentofacial orthopedics. Therefore, don’t wait until all the baby teeth have fallen out to schedule your child’s first consultation.
How does it work?
Most of the time, a first step is taken to correct jaw discrepancies, allowing growth to proceed properly. A second phase of treatment, alignment, is then initiated during adolescence when all permanent teeth have erupted.
This second phase will be shortened and facilitated if earlier treatment has been indicated and properly followed.
